Creating Matches
Let's look at the different ways to get in the ring in Casual Pro Wrestling.
The fastest way to do so is the Sparring Session that teaches you the game's controls. To set up an actual match, follow Create Match.
Create Match
The first button in the main menu leads you to the match creation process.
Player Setup
On this first screen, you establish who is playing.
Online Multiplayer
- Host Steam Game: Setting this to On will start an online multiplayer match that your Steam friends can join. See Multiplayer for more information.
- Invite: If you are hosting a Steam game, press this button to select the Steam friends to send an invitation to.
Players
- Free Wrestler Selection: If you set this to On, during the match, players can freely select any current match participant by browsing through them using Select (Tab on keyboards). See Controls for more information.
AI
- AI Mode: Choose how the AI will behave.
- Normal: The AI will try to win the match.
- Training Dummy: The AI will do absolutely nothing. Consider this a sandbox mode.
- Custom: Set to the same as Normal by default, allowing you to customize it via the Customize button, which opens the AI Settings screen.
- AI Only Match: Set this to On to watch a match between only AI players. If Free Wrestler Selection is enabled, you can always step in and control anyone or go back to AI only.
AI Settings
Here you can tweak the Custom AI mode.
The sliders have the following functionality:
- Counters – Scales the overall AI counter success chance (see Countering Moves for details).
- Striking / Grappling – Tweaks the fighting style of the AI.
- Decisions – Sets how fast or slow the AI takes to decide what to do next between actions.
The Normal difficulty has Counters set to 100 (normal), Striking/Grappling to 0 (balanced) and Decisions to 0 (fast).
Match Setup
Here's where you set the rules.
Settings
- Sanctioned: If set to On, the result of the match counts against the participants' win/loss record. After the match, you can still opt to unsanction the match afterwards.
- Preset: Choose between some classical presets for the rules shown below. These may help you set up your match faster.
Participants
- Number: How many wrestlers will participate in the match?
- Starting: How many wrestlers will start the match inside the ring?
- Starting a match with many wrestlers (especially ≥ 12) will increase the loading time, as well as the initial chaos …
- Entering Mode: If there are more participants than those who start the match, choose when the remaining participants will enter.
- On Elimination: Whenever somebody is eliminated from the match, the next participant will enter. This is useful for Gauntlet style matches.
- Every X Seconds: Enter the next participant after X seconds, including the infamous count-down before it happens.
Rules
- Pinfall: If set, participants can be eliminated via pinfall.
- Submissions: If set to On, participants can be eliminated via submission.
- First Fall Wins: If set to On, whenever a participant scores a pinfall or submission, they immediately win the match.
- Count Out: How far the referee will count participants outside the ring before they are eliminated. If a participant leaves the ring during an ongoing count, it will be restarted.
- Disqualification: If set to On, participants are disqualified for illegal actions such as weapon use or disregarding rope breaks.
- Falls: Choose where falls (pinfalls or submissions) count.
- In The Ring: Falls must occur inside the ring, the pinned or submitted wrestler must not be touching the rope (Rope Break).
- No Rope Break: Falls must inside the ring, but the Rope Break rule is not in effect.
- Anywhere: Falls may occur anywhere in the arena.
- Outside Elimination: Choose what happens if participants leave the ring with both feet touching the floor.
- Off: Other than possibly respecting Count-Outs, participants may leave the ring at will.
- Over Top Rope: Participants who leave the ring over the top rope are eliminated.
- Strict: Participants who leave the ring are eliminated unconditionally.
Arena Setup
Change a few things about the arena here.
Arena
- Arena: Choose the arena in which the match will take place.
- Attendance: Select roughly how large the crowd is, or opt to have an empty arena match. This may bey greyed out if the selected arena does not allow audiences.
Ring
- Type: Choose what type of ring this match is happening in.
- Squared Circle: The good old 20 by 20 feet squared wrestling ring.
- Hexagon: A six-sided ring for making an impact.
- Platform: A sumo-style round platform. Ideal for Strict outside elimination!
Settings
- Entrances: If set to On, the starting participants will have proper entrances.
Wrestler Selection
Here you select the match participants.
Grid
The selection grid shows a profile picture of all the wrestlers who are available. Casual Pro Wrestling does not distinguish between genders or impose any other restrictions, so anybody is eligible for any match.
Wrestlers who have already been selected as participants have a green check mark next to their picture. This does not prevent you from selecting them multiple times, however. You can have wrestlers face themselves.
Tale of the Tape
The dark box on the right displays some details about the currently highlighted wrestler, including a full-body render, their attributes (see Attributes & Stats for more information), and their current win/loss record.
Random Selection
Press Y (R on keyboards) to select a wrestler at random. Hold Y (R on keyboards) to fill all remaining participants randomly. Random will always pick wrestlers who are not already in the match.
Grouped Wrestlers
Wrestlers with the same Roster Entry are grouped together as variants in a single slot in the selection grid. This is indicated by a yellow <> symbol on the picture.
You can select between variants by using the Right Stick (Scroll Wheel on mouses).
Ready Screen
Before the match starts, the game shows you a nice preview.
Sparring Session
If you play the game for the first time, or you simply want to beat up the Coach, starting the Sparring Session is the fastest way to ingame.
The sparring session takes place in a gym hall which contains a ring and some other stuff to play around with. In the top left corner of your screen, you will see lessons that you can browse through, explaining the controls for different actions. The Coach is yours to practice on. They will not retaliate and only do offensive actions in very certain lessons (e.g., those where you can practice blocking or counters).
The match cannot be won or lost, eventually you just quit it via the Pause menu.
