Multiplayer

Casual Pro Wrestling supports multiplayer in three different flavors that are described on this page.

Couch Multiplayer

The classic couch multiplayer experience is fully supported! Connect multiple controllers and just play together.

ℹ Due to a Unity bug, Casual Pro Wrestling currently supports only up to 4 controllers.

When setting up a match, the number of connected controllers is used to determine how many human players are participating. Each human player may select a starting wrestler in the Wrestler Selection.

If Free Wrestler Selection is enabled, any human player can pick a different match participant at any time.

Steam Remote Play

Casual Pro Wrestling fully supports Steam Remote Play. This is basically couch multiplayer, but instead of physically gathering around the same screen, one player streams their screen and the others connect to them via Steam. For the streaming player, this works as if additional controllers were connected.

After starting the game, open your Steam Friends window (either by alt-tabbing out or by using the Steam overlay), right click a friend to invite and select Remote Play Together below the Casual Pro Wrestling entry.

ℹ Steam Remote Play requires using a controller.

Steam Network Multiplayer

Casual Pro Wrestling also allows you to play network multiplayer with your Steam friends.

⚠ Network Multiplayer is experimental. It works, but it may not be as satisfying of an experience as Steam Remote Play. Use this feature only if your connection does not suffice to stream in full HD, or if you don't have any controllers and must play using keyboards.

Currently, the following limitations are in effect:

  • You can only play with your Steam friends.
  • Entrances are disabled.
  • Only the host can have the match sanctioned. If they disconnect, the match is no longer sanctioned.

Please report any problems or bugs that you may experience and keep your logfile ready!

Hosting a Network Multiplayer Match

Hosting a network multiplayer match is as simple as enabling the Host Steam Game option in the Player Setup screen.

Player Setup

Setting it to On will create a lobby that others can join. You can invite your friends using the Invite button or the Steam friends window, but they can also find your match in the Join Match screen (see Joining a Network Multiplayer Match).

That's it. You set up the match as usual, and your connected friends will be able to select their wrestlers as if in couch multiplayer.

ℹ If a player joins while in the Wrestler Selection screen, they may no longer be considered. They will be assigned whatever wrestler the host selected in their turn.

Accepting Connections

If players join while the match is going, the host has to explicitly accept them via the Players List in the pause menu (accessible by pressing Start / ESC on keyboards). A notification is displayed on their screen.

Player List

⚠ While a player is joining, it may look as if the game froze. Just be patient for a while; proper notifications will be added soon.

Host Change

If the host disconnects during a network multiplayer match, it's not the end. Steam will pick a new player to own the lobby, and that player will become the new host of the match.

Once their connection is restored, the disconnected host can rejoin the match as described in Joining a Network Multiplayer Match, but they will no longer be the host.

⚠ During host change, it may look as if the game froze. Just be patient for a while; proper notifications will be added soon.

Joining a Network Multiplayer Match

Matches hosted by Steam friends can be joined via the Join Match screen.

In order to join, players must be playing the same version of the game. It may also be necessary for joining players to automatically download content.

Joining During Setup

The typical way of joining is while a match is being set up. In the Join Match screen, the status will be shown as Setting up.

ℹ If a player joins while in the Wrestler Selection screen, they may no longer be considered. They will be assigned whatever wrestler the host selected in their turn.

Joining Mid-Match

A match can be joined even if it's already underway. In the Join Match screen, the status will be shown as Match live.

The host will have to accept a mid-match join request as described in Accepting Connections.

⚠ While a player is joining, it may look as if the game froze. Just be patient for a while; proper notifications will be added soon.

Automatic Content Download

In order to join a match, joining players must have all the content installed that the host is using. If said content is exclusively from the Steam Workshop, the joining player will be offered to automatically download and temporarily install it so they can quickly join the match without having to take any additional action.
