Roadmap

This page contains information as to what's to come for Casual Pro Wrestling.

The roadmap contains highlight features with some, but by far not all details. Whatever is written here will come, but if something's not written here, it doesn't mean that it won't come. Highlight features are not the only thing I am working on, but merely outline the things I focus on for major updates.

Bugfixes, improvements, Create A Wrestler content and other features will be worked on concurrently even if not directly mentioned here.

Next Up

This section presents the highlight feature(s) that I will put my focus on next and can are planned for the next major update.

Note that I will not announce a release date before I know I can make it. Therefore, expect release dates only few weeks prior.

We Got The Moves

The arguably and understandably biggest point of criticism on Casual Pro Wrestling is the fact that every wrestler shares the same set of very few moves. As a result, there has been no move selection in Create A Wrestler.

During development, to an extent, I made the decision to work on the gameplay "breadth-first": it was important to me that most of the basic move types were in place and worked properly before going ahead and adding loads of different moves. The latter will now be done for the first major update entitled We Got The Moves.

The following additions are planned:

  • Allow wrestlers to have individual movesets and add a selection to Create A Wrestler.
  • Add 40 new moves into the existing systems:
    • 8x Front Grapple
    • 8x Back Grapple
    • 8x Lock-Up (including some chain wrestling)
    • 4x Standing Attacks
    • 4x Ground Attacks and Moves
    • 8x Flying Attacks
  • Add apron moves (ring to apron, apron to ring, apron to apron).
  • Add moves against running opponents.
  • Add a roll-away counter when grounded.
  • Add springboard attacks that work like any flying attack, but from the top rope, accessible from running against the ring ropes or from the apron.

What moves exactly will be added is going to be disclosed in regular updates, some will also be up for voting.

The update will not be released as a whole at once. The plan is rather to add a first batch of new moves, enough to justify a move selection in Create A Wrestler. This will then be released as version 0.15.0 of the game. Subsequent versions will then add more and more moves and iron out issues that may occur with added moves.

Planned Major Updates

This section lists highlight features planned for major updates during Early Access in not yet fixed chronological order.

Championship Material

This major update will introduce an actual reason to fight in Casual Pro Wrestling: Championships!

Namely, the following additions are planned:

  • Select a Championship to fight for in the match setup.
  • Add championship belts that are worn during the entrance and may be used as a weapon during the match.
  • Add a Championship menu that includes championship histories and allows for presenting or vacating a championship.
  • Add Create A Belt mode for custom belt creations with full Steam Workshop support.
  • Add a range of new taunts, including special taunts involving a championship belt.
  • Add a variety of (partially customizable) entrances and add a selection to Create A Wrestler.

Team Effort

This major update will concentrate on bringing team matches to Casual Pro Wrestling.

Namely, the following additions are planned:

  • Implement team matches for teams of arbitrary sizes (e.g., trios or 8-man matches).
  • Add team match setup options:

    • Team Style: No Teams, Tag Teams, Texas Tornado.
    • Team Size (number of members per team, also allowing for handicaps).
    • Team Elimination: Single Member, All Members.
  • Add a menu for creating named teams (inpromptu teams will always be possible).

  • Add team championships (if done after the Championship Material update, otherwise this will be moved there).
  • Add a selection of double-team moves.

Dizzying Heights

This major update will concentrate on climbing stuff in Casual Pro Wrestling and doing crazy things off them.

Namely, the following additions are planned:

  • Allow climbing tables to set up grappling moves or perform flying attacks.
  • Add interactive ladders (for climbing, performing flying attacks, tipping over).
  • Add ladder matches that are won by grabbing something hanging above the center of the ring (e.g., a champioship from the Championship Material update).
  • Add interactive cage walls (for climbing, performing flying attacks, crashing opponents).
  • Add a match setup option that allows winning by escaping.
  • Allow climbing the entrance curtain area and perform flying attacks off it.

I Booked Myself To Be Pleased With This

This major update will bring basic show booking to Casual Pro Wrestling and ring and arena customizability.

Namely, the following additions are planned:

  • Add a Booking menu that allows setting up back-to-back matches as a show.
  • Add multi-match modes that are selectable when booking matches.

    • Tournaments
    • Leagues
    • Best of X
  • Add a Career menu that shows a history of sanctioned matches and statistics. This may be merged with the Championship menu from the Championship Material update.

  • Add Create A Ring mode for ring customization with full Steam Workshop support.
  • Allow customizing the arena to an extent.

Modding

During Early Access, Casual Pro Wrestling will receive increasing modding support. This will not be done in the scope of a specific major update but rather step by step and concurrently.

Everything that is mentioned below will be supported in the form of Content Packs (for reference, every wrestler created in Create A Wrestler is a content pack). Content Packs have full Steam Workshop support via the game's Content menu, so the Content Screen will be your headquarters managing installed and self-created mods.

File-Based Modding

To an extent, Content Packs can be created on a filesystem level without the need for any special tools. Content that will be possible to be authored this way includes:

  • [ ] Content created ingame

Beyond Early Access

Since Early Access just launched, there are no concrete plans yet for the full release and beyond other than completing the aforementioned major updates and a number of features not yet disclosed to the public. Naturally, this is subject to change.
